Where Have All The Good Times Gone

David Lee Roth - Jump - country version - Yankee Rose - Van Halen - “Hot For Teacher” (Official Music Video) - Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers (Sao Paulo 1983)

again.

Trawling round teh interweb well YouTube I see this clip of Diamond Dave Lee Roth on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” promoting his new album with a bluegrass version of Van Halen’s “Jump”.

And it left me somewhat dejected, as I saw it only moments after finding on my hard drive a classic live clip of Dave in Van Halen back in ’83 doing a cover of ZZ Top’s “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers” and I’d just started to listen to some old boot MP3s of the early days and those six great Roth era Halen albums.

Dave hasn’t aged well at all, maybe not enough brown M&M’s in the diet ? A shadow of the former showman I remember from the 1988 Skyscraper tour and all those great VH & solo videos. Doesn’t look like he could manage the splits jump from the drum riser he used to do at the beginning of gigs (or the beginning of the “Yankee Rose vid” right).

What with this and Eddie turning into a real arsehole, it’s a sad decline for such a great band (still jealous of a certain hairy old bugger who saw them at their prime supporting Sabbath back in ’78).

As said before still got the old recordings and now YouTube to help remember what the good times were like but it looks like the end of the “Hot For Teacher” video might not be far off…

Give me a bottle of anything……and a glazed donut….to GO!!

  1. Bloody hell, he doesn’t seem to know what to do on-stage! And he now looks like Robin WIlliams less hairy brother. Where’s the bloody spandex!?
