Effectology volume 13

Electro-Harmonix Effectology Vol.13 Pink Floyd Synth Effects guitar pedals

Welcome To The Machine.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
Where have you been?
It’s alright we know where you’ve been.

Bill Ruppert has posted another in his excellent series of Effectology videos where he uses just a standard guitar and a few well chosen Electro-Harmonix effects pedals to make some weird non-guitar noises.

OK so this time it’s not just a guitar and the pedals, an electric shaver and a telephone are utilised to create the synth and tape effects heard on the classic Pink Floyd track “Welcome To The Machine” from their 1975 masterpiece “Wish You Were Here“.

For all the effects and the settings Bill used to recreate the sounds of the EMS VCS 3 synth that the Floyd used on the original recording, check out the EHX forum

You’ve been in the pipeline, filling in time,
Provided with toys and ‘Scouting for Boys’.
You bought a guitar to punish your ma,
And you didn’t like school, and you
know you’re nobody’s fool,
So welcome to the machine.

Welcome my son, welcome to the machine.
What did you dream?
It’s alright we told you what to dream.
You dreamed of a big star,
He played a mean guitar,
He always ate in the Steak Bar.
He loved to drive in his Jaguar.
So welcome to the Machine…
