JOE PERRY (AEROSMITH) “LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKING”@PLYMOUTH MEMORIAL HALL-PLYMOUTH, MA 9-20-09

talking…

Is he isn’t he? He said this, no I didn’t, he said that.

Have to say I’ve only been following one side of the ongoing Aerosmith shenanigans, namely Joe Perry on Twitter but it’s a bizarre one. All those tweets about how he and Steve don’t speak, haven’t written together one to one for years, how he didn’t seem at all please when Tyler went arse over tit that ended the summer tour, the management shift for the lead singer. People accusing Perry’s wife on Twitter.

Then the Classic Rock piece saying that Tyler was distant from the rest of the band at the recent Abu Dhabi gig where he said he would be concentrating on “Brand Tyler” from now on.

I don’t know what I’m doing yet, but it’s definitely going to be something Steven Tyler: working on the brand of myself — Brand Tyler Steve Tyler

But this doesn’t mean the end of Aerosmith, just a change in personnel…

As far as replacing Steve, it’s not just about that, it’s also four guys that play extremely well together, and I’m not going to see that go to waste. I really don’t know what path it’s going to take at this point, but we’ll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we’ll be able to… move the vibe up a notch.

Obviously he hasn’t been giving 100 percent to this thing for a long time.. To disregard his brothers to the point where we have to find out about it on the Internet — it’s like, ‘See you later, Bud.’ I still care for him as a person, or at least the person I used to know. But things change.Joe Perry

…and a couple of Tweets, with a Gordon Brown style of spelling…

Then probably less than 24 hours after Joe Tweeted the above he’s onstage for a Joe Perry Project band gig at the Fillmore New York, Irving Plaza in New York City on November 10th when Steve Tyler appears up there with him and announces he’s not going anywhere…

Before heading into the classic ‘Smith track “Walk This Way”…

All very bizarre, but no publicity is bad publicity…

Yes I have all the Aerosmith, as well as Joe Perry Project, albums, well the real ones anyway, far too many live and “best offs” recently that I haven’t bothered with. In all honestly since they returned with “Done With Mirrors” they’ve only released one truly great disc – “Permanent Vacation”. Yes “Pump” and “Get A Grip” had their moments but “Permanent” is from first track to last all killer. Remember buy the tape on holiday in the States and it almost being worn out by the time I got home…

Unfortunately in away it led them to work with outside writers and searching for the big hits to go along with the big videos and as for the huge ballad they’ll never top “Dream On” so I’d prefer they didn’t try. They’d have to do something amazing to top “Permanent” or any of the great 70s releases “Toys In The Attic” and “Rocks” back when they were the Toxic Twins…
