...wasn't it? A mixture of Spurs modern and Spurs of old as the season ends on a high and on a low but with promise.
...like. This Europa League campaign has been a bit hit and miss. Some glorious stuff, some lacklustre. Most of it edge of the seat, last second, so you just knew the only way it would go would be penalties.
...couldn't. But the aftermath could be the killer. Spurs keep putting in these insipid displays in the Europa League. So far they've dug themselves out of trouble with last gasp efforts. Going to have to do it again after drawing 2-2 at home to Basel.
...win. A Tweet went out last night shortly after Spurs had lost 4-1 in the second leg of their last 16 Europa League tie away at Inter Milan, to draw 4-4 on aggregate and go through on away goals.
...Milan. Someone needed to get a cab round to Inter's hotel last night, because they didn't turn up. There was just some useless mob trying to be Arsenal in red that were thumped 3-0 in the Europa League at The Lane.
...minute. Spurs waited pretty much as long as they could throughout the two legs of their Europa League tie against Lyon to go through to face Inter Milan.
...in town. It's Wales 2 the French 1 all over again. Second game in a row. And three free kicks scored in less than a week. Is Bale world class? Who cares as long as he's winning games for Spurs as they beat Lyon 2-1 in the Europa League.
...Jake. It's funny reading the media take on 'Arry Redknapp's declaration of his love for Jake Livermore. It's all talk about the amount of games Livermore played last season under Redknapp, while he's been frozen out and left to rot under the evil Andre Villas-Boas.
...well. This Europa League group stage has been a bit touch and go over the six games for Spurs, right through to 15 minutes from the end of the final game at home to Panathinaikos last night.
...Rome. On another rather tedious Europa League night, one man stood out above the mediocrity surrounding him, even if he had a few dodgy moments of his own.
...the fans what they can and cannot say? It seems to work, gives the crowd a lift which in turn gives the team a lift for the home game against Maribor in the Europa League.
...have the players? We know Andre Villas Boas' affinity with the Europa League, it's part of what got him noticed, and we know the fans want to see a Spurs' captain lifting a trophy at the end of a campaign but are the players bothered? They don't look it.
...team. Constantly they just morph into the team they're playing. Done it for years and they were back again against Panathinaikos in their second group game of the Europa League, getting only a one all draw.
...was putting up a stink. From the man himself to his beloved extra officials to the visiting fans a stink was put out at White Hart Lane as Spurs were denied an opening game victory in the Europa League.
...nowhere. So after beating Shamrock Rovers in the final game of the group phase 'Arry Redknapp's wish for Spurs not to be in the Europa League is finally here.
