...mercies. After Spurs' last few outings a point away to the South London scum of ARSEnal shouldn't be sniffed at.
..plumb. Just when you thought recent results were bad enough along comes one of the league's bottom teams, West Brom, to beat Spurs at home.
...before. Spurs nil, nil draw away to Partizan Belgrade in their first game of the Europa League group stage had all the hallmarks of their European exploits of the recent past.
...tours. The Vuelta a Espana and the Tour of Britain finished at the weekend both in their own way were grand.
...Spurs. Sunderland had one whole shot on target and yet Spurs made their way home from the Stadium of Light with just one point after letting in two goals.
...under the messiah Roy. A rather standard response that every is great and we can forget the past after another poor performance sees England beat a hopeless Swiss side in what should be their toughest Euro qualifier.
...R.I.P. Bill Kerr. Been a bit slack in posting about Bill Kerr after he died last week, aged 92, shockingly slack when he was major part in one of my all time favourites. Hancock's Half hour.
...impending failure. There's new faces, exciting prospects, but it's the same old dried up leader and the same old inadequacies that saw them scrape past an even younger and even worse Norwegian side in front of one man and his dog.
...window. It wasn't who came in but rather who didn't, who left and who stayed that made this transfer window somewhat lacklustre.
...resumed. After a promising start to the new season things are back to normal as Liverpool put another bunch of unanswered goals past Spurs in yet another lifeless display.
...Hullish sort of places. After seeing off AEL Limassol in the qualifying match with ease Spurs go into a Europa League group with no real glamour ties and hopefully no real banana skins.
...then. 'Arry Redknapp, Glenn Hoddle, Steven Caulker and Bobby Zamora were all taught a footballing lesson by the new stars of The Lane, Pochettino, Dier, Chadli, Capoue and Lamela, as Spurs beat QPR 4-0.
...forgot. Used to think it couldn't get worse than “Thursday nights, Channel five”, well Thursday night and not on any channel is far, far worse. As Spurs beat Limassol in their opening Europa League play-off tie.
...runs. How bad are India at Test cricket? They had England one nil down, down and out, and walk away with a 3-1 series defeat with the most miserable displays you've seen.
...similarity. There maybe a new man in charge but a number of things haven't changed over the summer for Spurs, though in the end a victory over Wet Spam was a refreshingly new end to things.
