…The Mellotron.
Bill Ruppert is back with another video Effectology video showing how he gets amazing non-guitar sounds out of well a guitar plus some judicious use of various Electro-Harmonix effects pedals.
This week it’s another classic keyboard sound – The Mellotron. No it isn’t a villain in one of the Gerry Anderson puppet shows from the 1960s – Fireball XL5, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, Joe 90 – it’s a “electro-mechanical, polyphonic keyboard“, used by rock musicians throughout the 60s and 70s, such as The Beatles, Genesis, the Moody Blues, King Crimson, Yes, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and on and on.
The Beatles – “Strawberry Fields Forever”
The Moody Blues – “Nights In White Satin”
But Bill manages to conjure up the sound of this Brum built behemoth out of his Ibanez Jem plus the following EHX pedals: Soul Preacher, POG2, Stereo Poly Chorus. With the addition of a volume pedal plus a pair of Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai, one for modulated delay the other for delay reverb, for the “Strings with Brass and Bass Accordion”.
Here are the settings Bill used for each effect
