Joe Gibbs celebrates the Redskin's 14-13 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.

the last few days.

Yanks beat Toronto 2-1 in the series with one run between the sides in each game then start off against the O’s with a 3-2 victory thanks mainly to some top pitching from Wang. Where would the Yanks be this year without the stand in guys, players you’d probably never expect to be in pinstripes never mind being the stand out members of the rotation. Wang, Chacon and Small have been top notch for the Yanks when things could have turned really bad.

Without those injuries to the “stars” Small wouldn’t have had the chance to became the first pitcher to win his first eight decisions with the Yankees since Doug Bird in 1980 and ’81. And chances are they wouldn’t be half a game back of the Sox with 13 games left. Saying all that A-Rod’s bat has helped somewhat 😉

Then last night’s Monday Night Football and the Redskin’s 14-13 victory over the Cowboys that even with 3 Super Bowl wins coach Joe Gibss said –

It was one of the greatest moments in sports for me Joe Gibbs

It’s funny I was ready a blog entry elsewhere saying Redskins v. Cowboys had stopped being a rivalry because of the ‘Skins poor record since Gibbs first stood down. A Toxic Web style kiss of death. This last gasp win, down 13-0 with 4 minutes left the first win in Texas for a decade and only the 2nd victory over the Cowboys in the last 16 games may just go some way to heat that rivalry up a bit.

And great for Gibbs after some of the stick he’s received of late, having starting out following the ‘Skins during the Theismann, Hogs & Riggins era (ironically after a defeat to the Cowboys) I’ll have nothing said against him.

Spurs certainly rode their luck against Aston Villa on Saturday to grab a 1 all draw. Another outstanding performance by (England #1) ‘keeper Paul Robinson. Of course it woul dhave been different if Sorensen hadn’t saved Defoe’s penalty.

But Robbie Keane had to come off the bench (where he isn’t happy at all though he’d rather stay there than play for Newcastle 😀 ) and score a cracking equaliser. Scoring has dropped off again, much like last year a burst of goals then nothing for a few games, was 363 minutes in the Prem before Keane’s. Maybe the return of Mido will help after he was cleared of the misconduct charge follow his sending off.

Another kiss of death though with the news Anthony Gardner is out for upto 2 months after tearing a thigh muscle in the Villa game, guess who I just put in my fantasy team before the game ?

The fallout from having a big squad is now beginning to happen with Pedro Mendes saying he wants to leave the club after being pushed behind most of the new midfield signings. Can’t blame him really, had quite a good season last year before injury and I think a player good enough for Mourinho’s European Cup winning Porto side of only 2 seasons ago would offer more than Jenas mincing about the park, who of course gave away the ball for Villa’s goal, though the 5Live Extra presenters repeatedly blamed Carrick.

Anyway Grimsby tonight in the Carling Cup, need to turn on the scoring like they did this time last year, no giant killing – TWKoD.

And congrats to Yorkshire who won promotion back into the 1st Division of the County Championship with a sloppy close draw against Derby. Should have wrapped up the win on Sunday but pissed about and almost lost it on Monday. Anyway good on David Byas, Craig White and the lads, back where we belong.
